Three Jerusalemite families were forced to evacuate their homes in the al-Ein al‑Fuqa area of Silwan district, south of the Aqsa Mosque, after a sudden cave-in happened inside one of their adjoining houses, the Palestinian Information Center reported, citing local sources.
According to the local sources, the collapse resulted from Israeli excavations beneath and around the homes of the Abu Sobeih families, with recent storms further accelerating its occurrence.
The Abu Sobeih families had submitted several official complaints to the Israeli municipality regarding severe cracks in the walls of their homes caused by underground excavations, but their appeals were ignored.
Despite the escalating danger, the municipality has taken no action and continues to prohibit them and many other Jerusalemite families from carrying out any maintenance or reinforcement work to stabilize the foundations of their homes.
