Gaza Municipality warns of dire humanitarian situation due to storm, infrastructure destruction

The Gaza Municipality has warned of a dire humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip as a result of the recent storm, which caused widespread damage to infrastructure and sewage networks, amidst the ongoing Israeli offensive on the Strip.

Husni Muhanna, spokesperson for the Gaza Municipality, stated in an interview with Cairo News Channel on Tuesday that the heavy rains and strong winds have become a direct threat to residents, particularly in areas previously damaged by Israeli bombardment, where most buildings are now on the verge of collapse.

He added that thousands of tents were completely flooded, leaving hundreds of families homeless and forced to live in the open without any protection from the storm, heavy rains, and strong winds.

Muhanna pointed out that the Gaza Municipality is suffering from a severe shortage of resources and operational capacity, having lost approximately 135 vehicles and pieces of equipment during the war.

This has severely limited its ability to clear roads, drain rainwater, and rescue those affected. The ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip came into effect on October 10th, following a two-year-long Zionist war of genocide. However, the Israeli enemy army continues to violate the agreement daily and still prevents the entry of most humanitarian aid into the Strip.
