The Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) has condemned on Wednesday UNRWA’s decision to terminate the contracts of its employees who are currently outside the Gaza Strip and have been placed on exceptional leave.
In a statement on Wednesday, Hamas described the decision as “unjust,” and a “violation of the fundamental rights of its employees who have been unable to return to Gaza due to the ongoing war and the Israeli closure of the Rafah border crossing.”
Hamas urged UNRWA to reverse its decision and to uphold its responsibilities towards the Palestinian people and its employees.
Hamas also called on the agency to keep its efforts focused on providing relief to Palestinians amid the humanitarian catastrophe unfolding in the Gaza Strip, and mobilize unified international pressure on Israel to lift restrictions on humanitarian operations.
