The Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) confirmed that it has instructed all governmental bodies and institutions to prepare to hand over all areas of administration to an independent Palestinian technocratic authority.
Hamas spokesperson Hazem Qassem said in a televised statement on Sunday that, “Following the announcement by US President Donald Trump of his intention to form a Peace Council for the Gaza Strip, the Movement has directed all governmental bodies and institutions to be ready to hand over all responsibilities to this council.”
Qassem emphasized that this is a clear and final decision by the Movement, stressing that “instructions have been given to facilitate the handover process in order to ensure the success of this body, in alignment with the higher Palestinian interest and as part of implementing the plan that halted the war on Gaza during the Sharm El-Sheikh agreement.”
Palestinian factions had previously agreed, during a meeting in Cairo on October 24, to transfer the administration of Gaza to a temporary Palestinian committee composed of independent figures and experts from within the Strip.
The factions also called for a unified strategy to revive the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) as the sole legitimate representative of the Palestinian people, and to ensure it plays a leading role in the next phase.
