The International Body for Supporting the Rights of the Palestinian People (HASHD) warned on Tuesday of the escalating humanitarian in the Gaza Strip, where severe winter storms and high winds coincide with the ongoing Israeli aggression. This has led to the collapse of several homes, the destruction of hundreds of tents, and the disruption of humanitarian operations.
The body explained in a statement on its website that what is happening constitutes a crime involving systematic destruction, forced displacement, deprivation of civilians from aid, and leaving them to face cold, winds, and bombardment simultaneously.
It pointed to the death of a 7-day-old infant and another child aged 4 due to the cold. Additionally, 28 other deaths were recorded due to building collapses caused by the winds, with injuries continuing and victims trapped under the rubble.
The body confirmed that the violations include the uprooting and flooding of displaced people’s tents and the obstruction of access to medical, food, and fuel aid, as well as winter tents. It stressed that these practices constitute a blatant violation of international law and the ceasefire, deepening the humanitarian suffering in Gaza.
The committee called on the international community, UN agencies, and humanitarian organizations to intervene immediately to ensure a halt to the bombardment, the opening of crossings, the provision of protection for civilians and the displaced, and to hold the entity accountable for crimes committed against civilians.
