Iran Blames Washington for Escalating Tensions

Tehran on Sunday held the United States responsible for escalating tensions with Iran, accusing Washington of continued interference in the country’s internal affairs and of backing violence inside Iran.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei said that “Washington is responsible for tensions with Iran and continues to interfere in our internal affairs,” stressing that Iran would continue to pursue accountability through international legal and diplomatic channels.

Baghaei noted that judicial proceedings related to recent developments would take time, saying that “judicial follow-up regarding the recent events requires time and cannot be resolved quickly.”

He added that Washington’s calls for diplomacy have historically amounted to pressure, stating that “America’s talk of diplomacy has always meant imposing dictates and extracting concessions.”

He also criticized European countries, saying they are “blindly pushing the United States forward,” and rejected their criticism of Iran’s human rights record as unfounded.

Baghaei reiterated that Iran remains committed to diplomatic engagement, but said the United States must demonstrate its intentions through actions, adding that “the Americans must prove in practice that they prefer diplomacy.”

He further accused the United States and “the Zionist entity” of playing a direct role in recent events inside Iran, asserting that foreign-backed efforts to destabilize the country would fail.
