The Iranian police announced today, Friday, the seizure of 60,000 smuggled weapons in the south of the country that were on their way to Tehran.
According to a statement by the Iranian police, the operation took place in the city of Bushehr in southern Iran, where the weapons were intercepted before being transported to Tehran, as reported by Iran’s Al-Alam TV.
In a related development, an Iranian diplomatic source earlier confirmed that some participants in the recent riots received payments for targeting police stations and setting government vehicles on fire. The source stated that attackers were paid $600 for assaulting a police station and $300 for burning a government car, noting that there is evidence and documentation of these payments.
The source also added that more than 1,300 firearms were confiscated from armed terrorists. A large number of casualties occurred among police forces, some of whom were beheaded, in addition to reports of people being burned alive.
