Lebanese President Joseph Aoun condemned on Tuesday Israeli attacks targeting several areas of Lebanon, stressing they are a provocative act aimed at undermining regional and international efforts to halt the escalation of hostilities.
“These attacks raise serious questions, particularly in light of the upcoming meeting of the Mechanism committee scheduled for Wednesday to halt hostilities,” Aoun said, as announced by the Lebanese Presidency.
The Lebanese president criticized the ongoing Israeli strikes, which occurred despite Lebanon’s cooperation and the measures taken by the government and the Lebanese Army in southern Lebanon.
“These developments reflect a clear intent to undermine the efforts exerted at local, regional, and international levels to halt the escalation.”
The attacks come despite the responsiveness shown by Lebanon to various initiatives and efforts aimed at de-escalation, President Aoun said, stressing that these attacks constitute a clear violation of the diplomatic efforts made to maintain stability.
He renewed his calls for the international community to act decisively to halt Israeli violations and to enable the Mechanism committee to carry out its mission.
“We call on the international community to intervene effectively to put an end to Israel’s excesses and stop its attacks, in a way that contributes to protecting security and stability in Lebanon and the region.”
The Israeli enemy struck and destroyed a building in an industrial zone in the southern Lebanese city of Sidon early on Tuesday, causing injuries and severe damage to the area.
Earlier on Monday, the Israeli enemy launched a series of strikes on several areas across southern Lebanon and Western Bekaa, some of them were preceded by so-called evacuation orders by the occupation army.
