Morocco raises alert level in northern provinces due to rain, floods

Local authorities in the city of Ksar El Kebir, in northern Morocco, announced on Friday that they have raised the alert level to maximum due to heavy rains and floods. A state of emergency was also declared in the Sidi Kacem region in the northwest of the country.

The head of the Ksar El Kebir local council urged residents to exercise extreme caution and advised those who could leave to do so immediately.

For its part, the Moroccan Ministry of Equipment and Water confirmed that efforts are continuing to protect residential areas in Ksar El Kebir that are threatened by flooding.

In the Sidi Kacem region, emergency measures included cleaning drainage networks and sewers to prevent any disruptions and carrying out immediate repairs to networks damaged by the heavy rainfall.

The Larache region in the northwest of the country has been experiencing heavy rainfall since last September, exceeding 600 mm as of Wednesday, according to official data.

During December 2025, several Moroccan cities experienced heavy rainfall and snowfall.

As of Wednesday, the Kingdom’s dams held 9.26 billion cubic meters of water, a level not seen since July 2019, according to government data.
