OCHA: Thousands in Gaza still affected by winter storms

The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) reported that thousands in Gaza are still suffering from recent winter storms, which destroyed hundreds of tents and temporary shelters.

Over 60 inhabited buildings in Gaza City are at risk of collapse, and seven children have died from extreme cold, according to the Health Ministry.

OCHA called for urgent aid, including heavy machinery, sandbags, and tools currently blocked from entering Gaza. UN agencies continue to distribute tents, blankets, food, and hygiene supplies.

Since October 7, 2023, the Israeli army’s actions in Gaza have killed 71,441 civilians and injured 171,329, with many victims still trapped under rubble. A ceasefire began on October 10, but violations persist, and most humanitarian aid remains blocked.
