Head of the Palestinian Prisoners Club, Abdullah Al-Zaghari, said that the decision of the Israeli occupation authorities to renew the state of emergency in prisons constituted an official cover for the escalation of violations against Palestinian detainees, and enshrines the policies of slow killing, torture, starvation and deprivation.
In a statement on Wednesday, Al-Zaghari said that the period following the announcement of the ceasefire witnessed an unprecedented escalation in repression inside the occupation prisons, including the use of prohibited weapons in the torture of prisoners, including electric shocks, in addition to severe overcrowding, which reached 91% and caused an outbreak of scabies disease and injured thousands of prisoners and the martyrdom of a number of them.
He confirmed that more than 100 prisoners and detainees have been killed since the beginning of the aggression, 87 of them have been documented by human rights institutions, while dozens of Gaza detainees are still under enforced disappearance, in flagrant violation of international law.
Zaghari called on the international community to take immediate measures, including allowing the Red Cross to visit prisoners without restrictions, and activating international accountability mechanisms to stop the ongoing crimes inside the occupation prisons.
