Russia: US threats of military strikes against Iran completely unacceptable

The Russian Foreign Ministry on Tuesday strongly condemned illegal foreign interference in Iran’s internal affairs, asserting that threats from the United States to launch military strikes against Iran are “completely unacceptable.”

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said in a statement published on the ministry’s official website that Moscow “strongly condemns the destructive foreign interference in Iran’s internal political affairs,” according to Sputnik news agency.

She added that the Iranian government is clearly committed to constructive dialogue with society as it seeks effective solutions to the negative socio-economic consequences of hostile Western policies.

Zakharova stressed that “Washington’s threats to launch new military strikes on the territory of the Islamic Republic of Iran are categorically rejected.”

She warned that exploiting unrest instigated by external actors as a pretext for repeating the aggression of June 2015 would have dire consequences for the stability of the Middle East and international security.

The Russian Foreign Ministry confirmed that it continues to coordinate with its diplomatic missions in Iran, noting that these missions are operating normally and remain in constant contact with Russian citizens residing there.
