Today, the General Mobilization in the capital Sana’a held a large gathering of scholars, preachers, and community leaders to launch the annual commemoration of the martyrdom of Sayyed Hussein Badr al-Din al-Houthi, the founder of Ansarullah, under the theme “Martyr of the Quطran.”
During a large public and official gathering at the Al-Sha’ab Mosque in Sana’a on Saturday, Yemen’s Grand Mufti, Shams al-Din Sharaf al-Din, declared that Yemen’s current confrontational stance against the United States and the Israeli enemies is a direct result of the sacrifices and ideological legacy of Sayyed Hussein Badr al-Din al-Houthi.
The Grand Mufti stated that Sayyed Hussein al-Houthi launched his “Quranic Project” from a place of deep awareness of the realities of conflict and sincere faith in God. He credited this project with confronting “the tyrants of the earth and global arrogance,” and helping to restore the Islamic nation to its natural role in facing injustice and tyranny.
Sharaf al-Din framed current international events, specifically citing recent US crime in Venezuela of kidnapping the president, as representing an “insult to the entire world,” highlighting the absence of any serious international stance to deter American “criminality and arrogance.”
He emphasized that confronting American and Israeli tyranny requires a conscious nation that acts with responsibility, asserting that the “people of faith, wisdom, and jihad”—a clear reference to his Yemeni supporters—are capable of standing against crime and championing the nation’s just causes.
The commemoration is part of a series of activities aimed at reviving the memory of Sayyed Hussein al-Houthi and drawing lessons from his “Quranic Project” to build awareness, enhance resilience, and confront global powers.
The martyr leader Sayyed Hussein Badr al-Din al-Houthi, the older brother of the leader Sayyed Abdul-Malik al-Houthi, founded the Ansarullah’s ideological framework in the 1990s. He was killed by Yemeni government forces in 2004. Its ideology is centered on resistance to US and Israeli influence in the region.
