Seven dead, 82 missing in Indonesian landslide

Indonesia’s National Disaster Management Agency said on Saturday that seven people were killed and 82 others were missing after a landslide struck West Java province, amid reports of heavy rain in the region.

A local official said the landslide hit a village in the West Bandung district.

“The number of missing is high. We will try to intensify search and rescue efforts today,” agency spokesman Abdul Mahari told Reuters.

The Indonesian Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) had earlier warned of severe weather, including heavy rain, in West Java province for a week, according to the local news website Kompas.
