Venezuela Forms Special Committee to Secure Release of President Maduro and Wife

Venezuelan Information and Communications Minister Freddy Nanez, announced on Monday the formation of a special parliamentary committee tasked with securing the release of President Nicolás Maduro and his wife, who were reportedly detained by US forces.

Speaking in a statement broadcast via Telegram and reported by Russia’s RIA Novosti,  Nanezsaid the acting president convened a Cabinet meeting during which the high-level committee was formed. The committee will be chaired by National Assembly Speaker Jorge Rodríguez.

Earlier this year, a large-scale US military operation struck Caracas and other parts of Venezuela, resulting in dozens of casualties, including military personnel, civilians, and Cuban nationals. Following the operation, President Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, were reportedly transported to New York.

US President Donald Trump has said the United States is temporarily overseeing the administration of Venezuela, while Vice President Delcy Rodríguez has assumed the role of acting president.
