WHO Says 24 Gaza Patients Evacuated to Jordan for Medical Treatment

The World Health Organization (WHO) chief announced that 24 patients were evacuated from Gaza to Jordan this week for medical treatment.

Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, WHO director-general, made the remarks on social media platform X.

He said the WHO had earlier this week supported the evacuation of 24 additional patients from Gaza. 36 companions travelled with them.

Ghebreyesus thanked Jordan for its “continued solidarity.”

He added that since October 2023, more than 10,700 patients have been evacuated from Gaza to receive advanced medical care in over 30 countries. However, he said more than 18,500 patients remain in urgent need of medical evacuation.

To ensure all patients have access to quality care , WHO reiterated  its call to open the medical referral route to the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, and for more countries to step forward to provide the critical, lifesaving medical care required.
