Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital in Gaza Announces Service Suspension Due to Generator Failure

Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital in Gaza has warned of an imminent threat to the hospital’s continued operation, due to the failure of the second main electrical generator, following the failure of the first main generator three months ago, and the lack of oil and necessary spare parts to repair and operate them safely and sustainably.

In a statement issued on Friday and reviewed by the Yemeni News Agency (Saba), it said: “After the failure of the two main generators, the hospital is currently operating on an emergency basis with only two small generators, under extremely fragile operational conditions that do not guarantee the stability or continuity of medical services.

This exposes the lives of hundreds of patients, wounded individuals, and medical staff to grave dangers, especially in intensive care units, children’s nurseries, operating rooms, and other vital departments.”

It added that the continuation of this situation heralds the complete shutdown of the hospital at any moment, which constitutes a new humanitarian and health disaster added to the series of serious challenges facing the health sector.

It called for urgent and immediate intervention to repair the two main generators and provide the necessary oils and spare parts to restart them swiftly without delay.

It also warned of the serious repercussions of any potential suspension of health services at the hospital and its direct impact on the lives and safety of patients.

It affirmed that protecting health facilities and ensuring they continue to fulfill their humanitarian duty is a legal and moral responsibility that cannot be delayed, and any delay in maintenance and the provision of oils will have catastrophic repercussions for this crisis.
