Cuba Slams US for Fueling Arms Race

Cuba’s Foreign Minister, Bruno Rodríguez criticized US policy on Saturday, accusing Washington of fueling an arms race and relying on the use of force rather than working to promote peace.

“The failure by the United States to renew the New START Treaty is evidence of its current warlike doctrine. It prefers to relaunch the arms race and rely on the use of force rather than preserve international peace and security,” Bruno Rodríguez wrote on X.

He said Washington prefers to escalate an arms race and use force instead of safeguarding international peace and security.

Rodríguez stressed the need to respect the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons (TPNW), which guarantees the total elimination of nuclear arms in a transparent, verifiable, and irreversible manner.

He added that “this is the only way to ensure that humanity does not once again suffer from their devastating effects.”

The Cuban minister further stressed that Cuba strongly supports the universalization, respect, and implementation of the TPNW.

He concluded by saying, “The world deserves and needs a lasting, just, and sustainable peace for all. It is essential to strive for a world free of nuclear weapons for the sake of present and future generations.”
