French Foreign Minister Noël Barrot said on Tuesday that despite the ceasefire taking effect, the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip remains difficult, noting that 320 tons of aid are still awaiting delivery to the territory.
Barrot stressed in a press statement that food aid must reach civilians in Gaza without any obstacles, according to the Sanad News Agency.
He added that France delivered 80 tons of food aid to Gaza on Monday.
The French foreign minister emphasized the need for humanitarian assistance to reach civilians without hindrance, affirming that France will continue mobilizing its efforts to support the people of Gaza.
With American and European backing, the Israeli army has, for more than two consecutive years since October 7, 2023, carried out acts described as genocide, siege, and starvation in the Gaza Strip, resulting in the deaths of 72,073 Palestinian civilians — most of them children and women — and the injury of 171,756 others to date, according to non-final figures. Thousands of victims remain under the rubble and in the streets, as ambulance and rescue crews are unable to reach them.
The ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip entered into force on October 10 following two years of war. However, Israeli forces are reported to be committing daily violations of the agreement and continue to prevent the majority of humanitarian aid from entering the territory.
