Gaza’s health ministry has warned that the few hospitals still functioning in the Strip have become waiting stations for thousands of patients and wounded people.
In a statement on Saturday, the ministry affirmed that Gaza’s hospitals suffer an almost total collapse and are unable to provide medical care, leaving the most vulnerable groups facing an uncertain health fate.
“The impacts of the ‘health genocide’ have produced a catastrophic reality in Gaza, where sustaining medical services has become nothing short of a daily miracle. This dire situation presents a grave obstacle to any attempt at recovery or the restoration of specialized services, which have long been disrupted by war and blockade,” the ministry said.
According to the ministry, 46 percent of essential medicines are completely out of stock, 66 percent of medical consumables have run out, and 84 percent of laboratory materials and blood bank supplies are no longer available.
The ministry stressed that oncology, surgery, intensive care, and primary healthcare are among the most severely affected hospital units, exacerbating patients’ suffering and pushing the health system towards total collapse.
The ministry added that the limited quantities of medicine reaching Gaza’s hospitals fall far short of meeting the actual needs required to sustain basic health services.
It warned that reliance on temporary emergency measures would not save the health system, but instead would lead to more serious consequences in both the short and long term.
