Israeli occupation authorities have ordered Médecins Sans Frontières (Doctors Without Borders) to cease its humanitarian operations in the Gaza Strip by February 28, after the organization refused to provide a list of its Palestinian staff.
The international organization rejected the Israeli demand, citing concerns over the safety of its employees and the need to maintain the independence of its work in Gaza.
The announcement comes amid an acute humanitarian and health crisis in Gaza, where hospitals and medical centers rely heavily on international and relief organizations to provide emergency care for the injured and sick.
Médecins Sans Frontières is among the leading humanitarian organizations in the territory, offering emergency surgeries, treatment for the injured, and support for health facilities struggling with severe shortages of staff and medical supplies.
The Israeli decision raises fears of a worsening humanitarian crisis in Gaza, at a time when international warnings are growing about the potential collapse of the health system, amid repeated calls to ensure the safe delivery of aid and the protection of medical personnel under international humanitarian law.
