Protests in Britain & France in Support of Palestine

Protests took place on Saturday in Britain and France in support of Palestine.

The new events focused on solidarity with Gaza and Palestinian prisoners, demanding an end to the war and the lifting of the siege, amid calls to hold “Israel” accountable for what protesters describe as ongoing violations.

In London, a solidarity event was held as part of the “Red Ribbons” campaign near Buckingham Palace, a step its organizers said aims to keep the Palestinian cause present in British public consciousness.

Al Jazeera reported that the choice of the event’s location in the heart of London’s tourist area was to deliver the message to the largest possible segment of the public, noting that the action comes a day after a British Supreme Court ruling that deemed the classification of the group “Palestine Action” as a terrorist organization illegal, a ruling the British government has appealed.

In Paris, hundreds of protesters heeded the call of human rights associations to demand an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, the lifting of the siege, and allowing the entry of humanitarian aid.

The Al Jazeera correspondent reported that participants considered the ceasefire not actually being implemented on the ground, calling on Western governments to pressure Israel to end military operations.

Protesters also expressed their rejection of US President Donald Trump’s plan, considering it does not represent a just solution to the Palestinian cause, affirming their continued actions to prevent the decline of international interest in the issue.

These movements come in the context of escalating popular activities in several European capitals, amid ongoing political and legal debate regarding the stance on the war in Gaza.
