UNRWA Commissioner: Gaza faces new suffering

The Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), Philippe Lazzarini, revealed today, Sunday, that the people in the Gaza Strip are facing new hardships.

In a post monitored by the Yemen News Agency (SABA), he said: “After the cold, rain, wind, and floods, displaced people in Gaza are now enduring a new form of suffering. Sandstorms have obscured the sky for days and covered the tent camps with dust.”

He added that the situation is worsening as people struggle to access enough water for bathing, which aggravates respiratory and skin diseases in an area where the health system has nearly collapsed due to the war.

Lazzarini emphasized that UNRWA’s medical teams and water supply units are working tirelessly to assist those in need. He stressed the importance of international relief efforts in restoring dignity to Gaza’s residents by increasing shelter supplies and removing obstacles to field operations, calling for the lifting of restrictions on Gaza.
