The United States and Iran announced early Wednesday that they have reached an agreement on a two-week ceasefire, following 40 days of war that began with military operations by Washington and Tel Aviv against Tehran.
US President Donald Trump stated that he has agreed to halt the bombing of Iran and suspend military attacks for a period of two weeks.
In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump said he would “suspend the bombing and attack of Iran for a period of two weeks” — a decision he described as a “double-sided CEASEFIRE.”
Trump said the suspension is “subject to the Islamic Republic of Iran agreeing to the COMPLETE, IMMEDIATE, and SAFE OPENING of the Strait of Hormuz.”
Meanwhile, Iranian state television reported that Trump had accepted Iran’s conditions to end the war.
The Tasnim News Agency indicated that the ceasefire agreement between Iran and what it described as the “American-Zionist enemy” was reached under “specific conditions,” noting that Tehran will announce more detailed information at a later time.
A US official told Al Jazeera that all military operations against Iran have been halted.
For his part, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said that “if attacks against Iran are stopped, our powerful armed forces will cease their defensive operations.”
