Maldives Bans Israeli Passport Holders From Entering Country

Maldivian president Mohamed Muizzu on Tuesday signed into law a measure prohibiting Israelis from entering the Islamic country as a gesture of solidarity with the Palestinian people.

The president ratified the legislation shortly after it was approved by his country’s parliament on Tuesday.

The move reflects the Maldivian government’s “firm stance in response to the continuing atrocities and ongoing acts of genocide committed by Israel against the Palestinian people”, a statement from the president’s office said.

“The government of Maldives reaffirms its resolute solidarity with the Palestinian cause and its enduring commitment to the promotion and protection of the rights of the Palestinian people. The Maldives continues to advocate for accountability for violations of international law and remains vocal across various international platforms in its condemnation of Israel’s actions,” it added.

The Maldives, which is a scenic tourist archipelago in the India Ocean, is a member of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation.
