A New Women’s Demonstration In Aden Demands Improved Services

Yesterday afternoon, Al-Aroud Square in Khormaksar District, occupied Aden Governorate, witnessed a large-scale women’s demonstration organized by activists from various components of civil society.

The demonstration called for an end to the deteriorating living conditions and the improvement of basic services in the city.

The participants in the demonstration held up banners denouncing the ongoing electricity and water crisis and rising prices, amid a continued decline in health and education services. They emphasized that the situation is no longer tolerable in the absence of any serious intervention from the relevant authorities.

Local sources said that the demonstration was an extension of a women’s movement that began days earlier. However, the UAE-backed Transitional Council militia preempted the event by hours by spreading southern flags around Al-Aroud Square, after the demonstrators in the previous event refused to raise any political slogans or flags.

The participants in the event emphasized that these women’s movements express the suffering of a wide segment of citizens and affirm their right to live with dignity, free from any political exploitation or manipulation.

Aden and the occupied governorates have been experiencing worsening service crises for years, most notably prolonged power outages, water scarcity, and the rising cost of living. This comes at a time when popular discontent is growing due to the lack of solutions and the failure of the authorities affiliated with the Saudi-Emirati aggression to address the situation.
