Amnesty International announced today that Palestinians in the Gaza Strip are facing mass starvation, reiterating the urgent need for a permanent ceasefire and the unhindered entry and distribution of aid.
In a post on “X” (formerly Twitter), the organization condemned the Israeli army for blocking aid access to Gaza, bombing shelters, and weaponizing food, water, and medicine, according to the Palestinian news agency WAFA.
This comes after more than 100 global humanitarian organizations issued an urgent appeal this morning to allow life-saving aid into the Gaza Strip. These organizations demanded immediate action from governments worldwide to open all land crossings into Gaza, restore the full flow of food, clean water, medical supplies, shelter essentials, and fuel through a UN-led mechanism, end the blockade, and agree to an immediate ceasefire. This appeal follows exactly two months since the start of the Israeli government-controlled “Gaza Humanitarian Foundation” scheme.
Earlier, the Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) reported that its aid supplies in Gaza have been completely depleted, with some of its staff members now experiencing hunger themselves. The NRC directly accused Israel of crippling the organization’s work and preventing it from fulfilling its humanitarian role.
