GPC Cancels Anniversary Celebrations In Solidarity With Gaza

Yemen’s General People’s Congress (GPC) in Sana’a announced on Tuesday that it is canceling all public and media celebrations for its founding anniversary on August 24, citing a “religious, national, moral, and humanitarian responsibility” toward the Palestinian people.

In a statement, the GPC said the decision was made in response to the “shameful crimes of murder and starvation” being committed against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.

The party affirmed its support for the “heroic operations” carried out by the Yemeni armed forces in support of Gaza, describing them as a religious and moral duty.

The statement praised the national stance led by Sayyed Abdul-Malik al-Houthi, saying it would be “recorded in history” as one based on principle and conscience.

The GPC’s declaration also stressed the importance of national unity, sovereignty, and confronting “aggression and blockade,” while rejecting any foreign interference or guardianship over Yemen.

Instead of celebrating its anniversary, the GPC will direct its leaders and members to participate in events supporting Palestine and to focus on advocacy for the residents of Gaza.

The statement concluded by reiterating its strong condemnation of ongoing “Zionist attacks on Yemen,” asserting that the “Zionist entity’s participation in the aggression against Yemen” has exposed those who serve its interests at the expense of the Yemeni people.
