Pakistan’s Ministry of Interior announced that the army killed at least 70 militants in airstrikes along the border with Afghanistan on Sunday morning, while Kabul announced the killing of 18 Afghans and the injury of others.
Islamabad stated that it carried out strikes on seven militant camps, describing the action as a “retaliatory response” to a recent wave of suicide bombings in the country, according to Russia Today.
In contrast, the spokesman for the Afghan government, Zabihullah Mujahid, said the attacks resulted in the deaths and injuries of dozens, including women and children, describing the Pakistani statements as inaccurate.
The Director of the Afghan Red Crescent Society in Nangarhar, Maulvi Fazlur Rahman Fayyaz, reported that 18 people were killed and others injured.
