The real assistance for the Yemenis today is to stop the war , return to the table talks and allow aid and relief to reach the needy in all parts of the country, said the UN Humanitarian Coordinator Jamie McGoldrick.
In a press conference held on Sana’a McGoldrick said that the overall collapse of the health system will negatively impact on the epidemiological situation of cholera and acute diarrhoea, which exacerbate the situation and increase the number of cases, since the functioning health facilities do not exceed 45 per cent and of its capacity.
He pointed out that the United Nations in Yemen is facing a significant shortage of funding to meet the increasing humanitarian needs, while the funding from the humanitarian response plan has not exceeded 20 per cent of the required amount of funding and the catastrophic situation is in need to meet Donor’s pledges .
Cholera cases are expected to worsen due to the country’s health and economic situation, warning of any military escalation to target of the port of Hodeida as this would have dire and disastrous consequences even at the level of relief.
