Gunmen launched a large-scale attack on the Transitional Council factions in Abyan Governorate, southern Yemen.
Informed sources said that gunmen, believed to be affiliated with al-Qaeda, launched heavy mortar shelling on the positions of the STC groups in the Al-Khayala area of Al-Mahfad district, east of the governorate.
It is not yet known whether the attack resulted in casualties.
The attack comes in the wake of al-Qaeda’s start of a recruitment campaign among the ranks of Islah Forces, to launch a joint battle against the Emirati factions in the governorate, which is witnessing unprecedented tensions between the coalition’s parties.
