Yemeni public universities in areas under the control of coalition factions continue their strike for the fourth week in a row.
The faculty and employee unions of the universities of Aden, Lahj, Abyan, and Shabwa carried out a protest in front of the gate of Ma’ashiq Palace in the city of Aden, to demand improving the rights of workers in the educational and academic field.
In a statement issued by the protest, the educational unions confirmed their continuation of the comprehensive strike that began on the first day of the start of the new school year, vowing to implement further escalatory steps against the government loyal to the coalition, to achieve their just demands.
The statement denounced that Maeen’s government continued to ignore the demands of teaching staff at public universities, calling for the rapid launch of financial settlements and the raising of the wages and salaries of academics to confront the high costs of living and economic deterioration resulting from the continuing collapse of the national currency against foreign currencies.
The university strike coincides with a similar strike taking place in public schools in various areas under the control of the Maeen government, in light of the latter’s refusal to address the problems of the educational staff.
