American military official revealed details about the attack by Sana’a forces on the American destroyer USS Greeley in the Gulf of Aden.
The American official told CBS that the destroyer’s crew used for the first time the closure system designed as a last defense system after a cruise missile penetrated all intermediate defenses.
He added, “The attack on the destroyer USS Greeley came within one mile, compared to 8 or 10 miles in previous attacks.”
Confirming that the destroyer USS Gravely was forced to use the Close-in Weapon System (CIWS) for the first time since America began intercepting Yemeni missiles.
Pointing out that the CIWS system is an automatic machine gun designed for close-range interceptions and is the final line of defense when other layers of defense fail to intercept missiles.”
In a related context, Reuters reported that the US and British Defense Ministers are holding a bilateral meeting in the US state of Virginia to discuss supporting “Israel in defending itself” and confronting “threats” in the Red Sea.
US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin said, “His country partners with the United Kingdom in confronting reckless attacks against military and commercial ships in the Red Sea.”
For his part, British Defense Minister Gran Shapps confirmed working with the United States to confront the “inconvenience” caused by the “Houthis” in the Red Sea.
