Russia: Western strikes on Yemen violate international law

The First Deputy Permanent Representative of Russia to the United Nations, Dmitry Polyanskiy, affirmed that Western strikes on Yemen violate international law and that the right to self-defense does not apply to protecting shipping.

“Such actions by Western countries constitute a direct violation of international law. The right to self-defense cannot be used to ensure freedom of navigation,” Polyanskiy stated during a session of the Security Council on the situation in the Middle East.

Al-Masirah channel reported on Wednesday that the Al-Jabana area in the Hodeidah governorate, western Yemen, was subjected to two airstrikes. This comes within the campaign initiated by the United States and Britain on January 12, which launched a wide-ranging attack on sites in several Yemeni cities.
