Prisoner advocacy organizations on Sunday announced the martyrdom of two detainees from the Gaza Strip: Mohammad Abdul Rahman Idris (35 years old) and Muath Khaled Ryan (31 years old) in Israeli’s enemy prisons.
The prisoner advocacy organizations (the Commission of Detainees and Ex-Detainees, the Palestinian Prisoners’ Society, and the Addameer Association for Prisoner Care and Human Rights) said in a joint statement that they were informed of the martyrdom of Idris through the Civil Affairs Authority on November 29, 2024, in Ofer Prison.
They received news about Muath Ryan’s martyrdom after contacting the enemy army to inquire about his fate, only to find out he had been martyred on November 2, 2024, without disclosing where he was martyred.
The organizations indicated that, according to Idris’s family, he did not suffer from any health issues before his disappearance on August 25, 2024. As for Ryan, he suffered from complete paralysis prior to his arrest on October 21, 2024.
They added that in November, it was announced that a father and his son had been martyred in occupation prisons after the “Hamoked” organization received a response from the Israeli high court regarding their fate.
They were: Munir Abdullah Mahmoud Al-Faqawi (42 years old) and his son Yasin Munir Al-Faqawi (18 years old), bringing the number of martyrs from the prisoner movement since the start of the genocidal war on Gaza to 47.
This number only includes the martyrs for whom the organizations received data, while Israel continues to hide the identities of dozens of Gaza detainees who were martyred after the war in its prisons and detention camps.
The organizations confirmed that revealing more martyrs among Gaza detainees who have fallen in recent months means that Israel is continuing in its systematic torture crimes, in addition to medical neglect, starvation, sexual assault, and various forms of abuse.
This includes continuous shackling and turning every detail in the structure of the camp and prison into a tool for torture, theft, and deprivation.
They emphasized that the level of shocking and horrifying testimonies and data that the organizations continue to follow, even after more than 400 days of genocidal war, “leads us daily to another aspect of genocide: the ongoing crimes against prisoners and detainees in Israeli occupation prisons and camps.”
They pointed out that the factor of time is currently the most crucial for the fate of thousands of prisoners in occupation prisons and camps. Thousands of sick and injured prisoners who endured the prison system’s measures and crimes at the beginning of the war can no longer do so, as their health conditions are clearly deteriorating. Many healthy prisoners have become ill due to the continued spread of epidemics and diseases and the crime of starvation, which is evident daily through visits and court sessions.
The organizations noted that the ongoing catastrophic conditions faced by prisoners, particularly the sick and injured, will certainly lead to the martyrdom of more prisoners in Israeli prisons and camps. The specialized organizations can no longer keep track of the number of sick prisoners due to the spread of diseases among them and the arrest of more injured individuals. It is noteworthy that the number of martyr prisoners is historically the highest compared to the periods when Palestine experienced significant uprisings and popular movements.
They warned that the occupation army deliberately manipulates responses to inquiries from specialized organizations. This has occurred in many cases, where the army intentionally claims that there is no information about a detainee or that he is not present, only to later reveal in another response that he is detained or has been martyred. The last such case involved the two martyrs Al-Faqawi, where the army’s initial response was that they were not present, but after legal efforts, it was revealed that they had been martyred.
The organizations held the Zionist enemy fully responsible for their martyrdom, adding these crimes to the historical record of Israel’s long-standing violations, which have reached a peak with the ongoing genocidal war against Gaza, marking the bloodiest phase in the history of Palestinian long struggle against the occupation.
They noted that with the martyrdom of detainees Idris and Ryan, the number of known martyr prisoners since 1967 has risen to 284, along with dozens more whose identities and martyrdom circumstances are still hidden by the occupation authorities. Of the total number of martyrs in the prisoner movement, the number of martyr prisoners since October 7 last year has risen to 47, for whom the specialized organizations have announced their identities.
The organizations reiterated their call for the international human rights system to take effective action to hold the Zionist leaders accountable for the war crimes they continue to perpetrate against the Palestinian people, impose sanctions that would isolate Israel internationally, restore the fundamental role of the human rights system, and put an end to the terrifying state of impotence it has experienced in light of Israel’s genocidal war. They demanded an end to the exceptional immunity granted to Israel, considering it above accountability and punishment.
They clarified that the number of prisoners in Israeli prisons recognized by the prison administration as of early November exceeded 10,200, while they continue to impose the crime of enforced disappearance on hundreds of Gaza detainees in the camps run by the Israeli army.
Among the prisoners are 90 female prisoners, at least 270 children, and 3,443 administrative detainees, including 28 women and 100 children.
