UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres stressed that the right of the Palestinian people to live on their land is one of their inalienable rights.

During his speech at the annual meeting of the UN Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People, at the UN headquarters in New York last night, Guterres stressed the importance of adhering to international law and avoiding any escalation that may further complicate the crisis.

He also called for halting any measures that may exacerbate the situation, including forced displacement that constitutes ethnic cleansing.

He said that any sustainable peace requires ending the occupation and establishing an independent Palestinian state, adding that the Gaza Strip is an integral part of it.

Guterres pointed out that efforts are continuing around the clock to deliver humanitarian aid to Palestinians in need.

He called on the international community and donors to provide full funding for humanitarian operations and support the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), which provides basic relief services to Palestinian refugees.

Guterres’ statements came in response to the plan to displace Palestinians from the Gaza Strip, announced by US President Donald Trump, following his meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the White House the day before yesterday.
