Protests continue for the fifth consecutive day in the occupied governorates due to the deterioration of living and economic conditions and the continued suffering of citizens from frequent power outages and the high prices of basic materials, in addition to the deterioration of public services.
Yesterday, the city of Aden witnessed a massive demonstration of anger by citizens, as protesters blocked the road leading to Aden International Airport, due to the continued economic collapse and lack of basic services in the city.
The demonstrators set fire to damaged tires to block the road, expressing their discontent with the deterioration of living conditions, especially power outages and high prices.
The protesters announced that they will continue to block the road until electricity services are improved and urgent solutions are provided to the economic crisis that the city is suffering from.
In addition, the city of Zinjibar – the center of Abyan Governorate, which is under the control of the occupation yesterday – witnessed an angry protest and comprehensive civil disobedience in denunciation of the deterioration of living conditions and the collapse of the value of the local currency.
The participants in the angry demonstration closed shops, set tires on fire, and closed the main streets of the city, due to the power outage and the high prices of basic commodities, while chanting, “Oh southerner, wake up… no more alliances.”
Local sources in the city indicated that the prices of basic commodities rose to a record high as public services continued to collapse, which prompted citizens to go out in angry marches to demand the improvement of living conditions and the provision of basic services.
They indicated that the protests came as a result of the continued deterioration of economic and living conditions, in the absence of any real solutions from the government affiliated with the occupation.
The protests in Zinjibar coincided with similar protests in Aden, Lahj, and Al-Dhale, which are under the control of the occupation, expressing their discontent with the continued deterioration of the economic situation, the collapse of basic services, and the interruption of salaries.
In the same context, the collapse of the currency against foreign currencies in the city of Aden doubled the suffering of citizens, especially those with limited income, as the value of the dollar in Aden reached 2,300 riyals yesterday.
While the price of a (50) kilogram bag of flour in the city of Aden rose to 54 thousand riyals. It is expected that the prices of basic foodstuffs such as flour, wheat and sugar will witness a new wave of increases, especially with the approach of the month of Ramadan, and the continued collapse of the currency, whose exchange rate reached 600 riyals against one Saudi riyal.
