Planting 10,000 Palm Trees in Hodeidah’s Streets & Lighting Them With Solar Energy

Minister of Transport and Public Works Mohammed Ayash Quhaim and Hodeidah Governor Abdullah Abdo Otayfi yesterday inspected the progress of the Al-Sham Line Road Rehabilitation Project.

Quhaim and Otayfi listened to a briefing from relevant officials in the Public Works Sector and the Road Maintenance Fund on the progress of the project, which extends from the 22 May Roundabout in Hodeidah to Al-Zaydiyah District.

The project includes the restoration of damaged asphalt, filling potholes, and filling cracks, contributing to the rehabilitation of this vital road linking several northern districts.

The Minister of Transport emphasized the need to expedite the completion of the remaining work, noting the importance of the Al-Sham Line, a major artery linking several districts and one that had been suffering from severe asphalt deterioration.

Separately, the Minister of Transport, the Governor of Hodeidah, and the First Deputy Governor, Ahmed Mahdi Al-Bishri, yesterday inaugurated work on two projects: planting 10,000 palm trees and installing a solar-powered street lighting network in Hodeidah City.

The Minister of Transport and the Governor of Hodeidah emphasized the importance of the two projects, which are being implemented within the framework of caring for and developing Hodeidah’s urban areas, as well as enhancing their aesthetic appearance and overcoming all the effects of the aggression on the governorate.

The Director General of the Cleanliness and Improvement Fund, Abdul Nasser Al-Sharif, explained that the afforestation project includes planting palm trees on main and side streets and public parks, starting from the entrance to Hodeidah city (the ship roundabout) as part of a broader afforestation and desertification control plan.

This plan includes district capitals and urban cities in the governorate, particularly those destroyed by the aggression.

The Director of the Public Works Sector, Engineer Mohammed Muthanna, noted that the work to install a solar-powered lighting network from Al-Gharasi Roundabout to Al-Shaab Park, funded by the United Nations Program for Project Services (UNOPS) and supervised by the Public Works Sector, aims to enhance public lighting and provide a safe environment for pedestrians and vehicles.
