Medical sources announced on Tuesday morning the death of two Palestinian children—Yousef Al-Safadi from northern Gaza and Abdul-Hamid Al-Ghalban from Khan Yunis in the south—due to severe malnutrition and starvation.
According to the same sources, 23 civilians, including children, have died in various areas of the Gaza Strip over the past two days due to malnutrition
Hospitals in the Gaza Strip are currently treating hundreds of patients of all ages suffering from acute hunger and malnutrition, many of whom are in states of extreme fatigue and memory loss caused by prolonged food deprivation.
The same sources reported that at least 17,000 children are suffering from severe malnutrition, while hospitals lack adequate medical beds and essential medications to cope with the massive influx of malnourished patients.
The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) had recently warned that malnutrition rates among children under five in Gaza doubled between March and June, due to the ongoing Israeli blockade.
UNRWA stated that its clinics conducted approximately 74,000 nutrition screenings for children during this period, identifying around 5,500 cases of severe acute malnutrition and more than 800 cases of extreme acute malnutrition—signaling a rapidly worsening humanitarian catastrophe.
