World Health Organization (WHO) Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus announced that more than 18,500 patients in the Gaza Strip still urgently need medical evacuation.
This came in a post by Ghebreyesus on the American company X’s platform last night, regarding the latest developments in the health situation in the Gaza Strip.
He noted that the WHO supported the medical evacuation last week of 18 patients and 36 companions from the Gaza Strip to Jordan to receive necessary medical care for injuries, cancer, and other serious illnesses.
The UN official expressed his gratitude to Jordan for its continued solidarity and for receiving those in need of medical care.
Ghebreyesus stated that more than 30 countries have received over 10,700 patients from Gaza for treatment since October 2023.
He said, “But more than 18,500 patients, including 4,000 children, are still in dire need of urgent medical evacuation.”
He called on more countries to open their doors to Gaza patients and to resume medical evacuations to the West Bank, including East Jerusalem.
