Russia has developed a new mobile anti-drone system equipped with a laser weapon, a move aimed at countering the growing threat posed by unmanned aerial systems, The Russian newspaper ‘Rossiyskaya Gazeta’ reported
The weapon, which operates at a range of 500 meters, uses focused ytterbium laser emission to disable drones by targeting their bodies, propellers, engines, or batteries.
Presented at the Pan-Russian Conference on the Protection of Civilian Facilities Against Unmanned Aerial Systems, the unveiling has drawn attention from defense analysts and sparked discussions about the future of anti-drone warfare.
“According to our data, such systems are at the design stage in Russia and are not engaged in the zone of the special military operation. We for the first time display the prototype of a laser rifle that destroys unmanned aerial vehicles. It was designed against FPV drones and operates at a distance of 500 meters. The laser rifle physically affects a drone by the technology of focused ytterbium laser emission. The laser beam destroys the drone body, propeller, engines, battery, etc.,” the designer company said.
The Ukrainian army already uses devices with laser emission in the zone of military operation, it added.
