Minister of Foreign Affairs Hisham Sharaf has discussed with Resident Representative of UNICEF in Yemen Philippe Duamelle the activities of UNICEF programs in Yemen since the beginning of this year.

The Minister expressed the Salvation Government’s appreciation for UNICEF’s efforts and activities in the field of protecting children and providing citizens with water, especially in light of the US-Saudi aggression and the comprehensive siege for the seventh year in a row.

Sharaf explained the humanitarian catastrophe created by the aggression coalition was not limited to malnutrition and severe shortages of basic foodstuffs but included all basic areas of life, including the educational process.

Minister Sharaf called on UNICEF to play its role in seeking funds to provide incentives for workers in the educational field, including teachers and administrators.

He again warned of the repercussions of the continued ban on entry of ships loaded with oil derivatives and domestic gas, which led to a near-stopping of a number of hospitals and health centers.

The Minister indicated that the continued closure of Sana’a International Airport only serves the enemies of peace and those who do not want the aggression to stop,  pointing out that the continued closure of the airport led to the death of a large number of patients, including children, who needed treatment abroad.

For his part, Duamelle said the UNICEF program in Yemen is one of the largest in the world, stressing that the UNICEF gives the humanitarian situation in Yemen a priority on its agenda.
