Netherlands foreign minister, Caspar Veldkamp, has officially called for a review of the partnership agreement between the European Union and Israeli occupation, according to the British newspaper The Guardian.
The minister cited Article 2 of the agreement, which stipulates that respect for human rights is the foundation of bilateral relations.
He threatened to veto the EU-Israel Joint Action Plan if the required review was not conducted.
Veldkamp sent an official letter in this regard to the European Union’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs, Kaja Kallas.
This was the first time a European Union member state took such a frank stance, challenging the legitimacy of continued privileged cooperation with a state that systematically violates international humanitarian law.
