Human Rights Watch said on Monday that instead of spending billions to join the Peace Council proposed by US President Donald Trump, countries should be doing more to strengthen the United Nations’ role in protecting human rights.
The organization added, in a post on its X platform monitored by the Yemeni News Agency (Saba), that the council was originally intended to oversee the administration of the Gaza Strip following more than two years of attacks and destruction by Israeli forces. However, the council’s charter makes no mention of Gaza or the protection of human rights.
