UN special envoy for Lebanon discusses regional developments with Iranian FM

The UN Special Envoy for Lebanon, Jean Arnault, met with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi on Sunday to discuss the latest developments in Lebanon and the region. Arnault is in Tehran for consultations with Iranian officials.

According to Araqchi’s Telegram channel, as reported by the Yemeni News Agency (Saba), Arnault expressed his condolences for the victims of the US-Israeli attack on Iran, emphasizing the importance of intensifying efforts to promote peace and stability in the region.

The UN envoy also reviewed the latest developments in Lebanon and the efforts undertaken by the international organization to solidify the ceasefire and end the war. He expressed his hope that the implementation of the understandings between Iran and the United States and the strengthening of regional cooperation would contribute to establishing security and stability, particularly in Lebanon.

For his part, Araqchi condemned the US attacks on Iran, the violations related to the Strait of Hormuz, and the continued Israeli attacks on Lebanon, holding Washington responsible for the repercussions of the escalation and calling on the United Nations to take a clear stance regarding these developments.

The Iranian Foreign Minister affirmed his country’s continued support for Lebanon, its territorial integrity and national sovereignty, and its ongoing efforts to end the Zionist attacks on Lebanese territory.
