UAE-backed militias suffer heavy casualties in Shabwah

Saudi-backed forces loyal to exiled Hadi have taken control over Thamad military camp, formerly belonging to the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council’s militias and Shabwah Elite Forces.

According to southern sources, at least three of the UAE-backed militia members were killed and more than a dozen, including senior leaders, were injured in renewed violent clashes in the city of Ataq, the regional capital of Shabwah province.

The sources added that the local authority in the province has imposed a curfew inside Ataq city until 8:00 AM on Saturday, and pointed out that the city hospital came under fire after the UAE-backed militias took the hospital as a front line to defend.

The clashes between the two sides led to the Saudi-backed the exiled Hadi loyalist forces taking control over most of Ataq.

On Saturday,  the UAE sent  military reinforcements to support Shabwanian elite’s forces in Shabwah province,  local sources reported

The UAE sent 33+ military pick-up vehicles carrying 33+ cannons from Aden to Ataq City.

In a statement issued by a STC spokesman on Friday, the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council called for a ceasefire in the city of Ataq, after its militias failed to storm and retake the city
