The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) has condemned Israeli police forces for raiding and evacuating the Qalandia Training Center in Occupied Jerusalem last Tuesday, calling the measures against its UN facility a “violation of international law.”
In a press release on Saturday, UNRWA said that Israeli measures against the training center began on August 25, including raiding the facility and conducting activities inside its buildings.
The agency noted that it had managed the center for more than 70 years, providing education and vocational training for Palestinian refugees.
UNRWA stressed that the Qalandia center remains a UN facility, highlighting the need to respect and protect it in accordance with international law and the privileges and immunities granted to UN facilities.
UNRWA also reported that the center sustained damage during the police raid, adding that it received reports of unauthorized entry and attempted theft of facility equipment.
UNRWA reiterated the need to protect the center and its assets, given its vital role in providing educational services and vocational training to Palestine refugees.
UNRWA affirmed that it is committed to fully resuming operations and educational programs at the Qalandia Training Center.
