Education sector employees are preparing to organize large protests in the city of Taiz, southern Yemen, which is under the control of coalition factions.

In a statement, the Teachers Union in Taiz called for protests to demand the implementation of its members’ dues and an increase in teachers’ wages, in light of the existing living crisis in areas controlled by Maeen government.

The union denounced the Presidential Council and Maeen’s government’s disregard for the teachers’ demands, vowing to escalate and go on a comprehensive strike.

Last week, the Teachers Union in the city of Aden organized similar protests in refusal to transfer their salaries to banks, before the union announced a partial strike.
