Protests continued in Abyan Governorate, southern Yemen, on Saturday, condemning the ongoing deterioration of living conditions in the occupied areas, particularly the collapse of the local currency against foreign currencies, according to the website “26 September Net.”
Residents of the Al-Mahfad district gathered for a massive demonstration, denouncing the decline of the local currency and the rise in food prices, blaming the mercenary government for exacerbating the suffering of citizens.
In a related context, protesters closed several exchange shops in the city of Lawdar, in the northern part of the governorate, expressing their discontent over what they described as currency manipulation by the traders.
This comes amid a historic collapse of the local currency in the occupied areas, with the exchange rate reaching around 2000 Yemeni riyals per dollar, further increasing the hardships faced by citizens in these economically challenging conditions.
