Al-Murtadha: Saudi-backed side obstructs exchange deal

The head of Yemen’s National Committee for Prisoners’ Affairs, Brig. Gen. Abdulqader Al-Murtadha, held the US-Saudi aggression and its allied forces responsible for any obstruction to the prisoner exchange agreement reached in the Jordanian capital, Amman.

He said the implementation of the exchange had been delayed because the Saudi-backed party had failed to fulfill its agreed obligations despite the committee’s readiness to proceed according to the agreed timetable.

He said the committee had completed all of its commitments and was fully prepared to implement the exchange on schedule, but that delays by the Saudi-backed party had prevented the process from moving forward.

Al-Murtadha also stressed that the opposing side had refused to include the remaining detainees in its custody, which he said hindered implementation of the agreement despite the completion of all necessary procedures.

He added that the committee had informed both the UN and the International Committee of the Red Cross of its readiness to carry out the exchange as soon as the Saudi-backed party complied with the agreed terms. He further accused the opposing side of attempting to mislead public opinion by overlooking several key provisions that, he said, were intended to be implemented before the exchange.

He stressed that those provisions constitute an essential part of the agreement and reaffirmed the committee’s commitment to implementing the prisoner exchange immediately once the Saudi-backed party fulfills all of its obligations.

He concluded by reiterating that the opposing party bears full responsibility for any further delay or failure to implement the prisoner exchange agreement.
